Emmaus Band

As a new year gets underway, it's a great time to check in with all of you and keep you up-to-date with what's happening in the contemporary music area. Some of you may have noticed the Faith Praise Team's new name, Emmaus. You can read the full story in Luke 24. It was on the road to Emmaus that two of Jesus' followers, in deep despair over his death, learned that Jesus had truly risen from the dead. They did not recognize the man they met on the road to Emmaus who assured them to look to the Scriptures for the truth. He stayed with them to share an evening meal in Emmaus. When he broke the bread, his identity became known. They saw it was Jesus and he was alive. The disciples to whom Jesus revealed himself then witnessed to others of the Good News. As Christians, Jesus reveals himself through our witness and faith. We all travel that road to Emmaus, experiencing the world with our human senses and emotions, and we can take much comfort in knowing that while we don't always recognize him, Jesus is with us. As Emmaus, it is our mission to bring these concepts into our music ministry: a powerful witness of faith deeply rooted in God's word and a knowledge of Jesus' daily presence in our lives. We were blessed with a great year in 2002, perhaps the highlight being a concert we were invited to do at Rio Grande Presbyterian Church on the west side. This year there will be several music events. We are planning a worship night event in the Sanctuary for May, and the possibility of a bluegrass night toward the end of the summer. We have had many requests to put a CD together, and this is also a project we plan to start very soon. Thanks to all for your support and prayers. It is a joy and a privilege to serve the Lord with you, and to sing to the Lord with you.

God's blessings to you,
Cinda Wylie

Contemporary Christian Praise music is exploding in popularity throughout the entire country. Faith Lutheran Church has responded with a contemporary service on Sunday at 11:00 AM. The Emmaus Band plays an integral part in creating a warm and informal atmosphere in which to worship. Working parallel to the scripture readings and sermon, the goal of the band is to bring the message of Christian love, faith and fellowship to life on Sunday in a way that we can all relate to each day of the week. Our music includes popular worship songs, traditional music, the latest songs from contemporary Christian recording artists, as well as inspired originals written and performed by band members. The band is a great opportunity for those who are musically gifted and would like to take an active part in the worship service.
